The sun, the main god of the

The Inti Raymi was born this way, the feast of
the Sun. Form the Qoricancha until the

in the sacred. The Inca and his court got ready
in purity and fasting to surrender homage to his
father, the Sun.
Tha Inca sovereign of the
Tawantinsuyo presided over the central party
sacrificing the Llama. Willaq Uma, after opening
the body of the animal he saw in the vicera and

cities like this.
QORIKANCHA, Temple of the Sun - It was the
center of Incan religion, decorated with gold
and silver from top to bottom: floors, walls and
ceilings. In this temple there were chapels
dedicated to different deities: Rainbow, Thunder,
Stars, and Moon. Qoricancha was given to Juan
Pizarro, but he didn’t enjoy it very long
because he died in Saqsauma.
CATHEDRAL.- The Cathedral was built on the site
of Inca Wiracocha´s Palace. The construction
took place from 1556 to 1669. It was built in
the Renaissance style. It is filled with wonders
among which there are carvings of alder and
cedar wood and a painting of the Last Supper by
Marcos Zapata showing Christ and the Apostles
about to dine on guinea-pig.
SAQSAUMA.- An important religious site, it was
the Temple of the Sun in the Upper Cusco. You
can see there the Three Great Walls with huge
stones in zig zag shape that represent the God
of Lightning whom the Incas had considered an
important deity. Today we have a celebration
every June 24th (Winter Solstice) in memory of
the Sun God, which is known as the Festival of
the Sun or Inti Raymi.
Q´ENQO.- The name means Labyrinth. It was a Waka,
a shrine Place, the Temple of the Mother Earth.
There are carvings everywhere, but some are a
little indistinct: a Llama, a Condor, a Puma, a
Serpent, other Gods of the Incas.
PUKA – PUKARA.- Can be translated as Red Watch
Tower or Red Fort. Most likely it was a Tambo, a
kind of Post House where travelers were lodged
as well as their goods, animals, and so on. It
is also known as the Temple of the Wind.
TAMBOMACHAY Traditionally called the Inka´s Bath

spring emerges from the hill side, with water
running permanently. This is the Temple of the
water.
